The USC Department of Neurology provides comprehensive outpatient and inpatient services to the USC-affiliated hospitals, as well as the community at large. The department's clinical programs include the Bowles Clinic for Alzheimer Disease and Related Disorders; the Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Clinic; the USC Neuromuscular Center at Good Samaritan Hospital (with particular emphasis on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis-ALS or Lou Gehrig 's disease); Neuromuscular Program at the Leslie P. Weiner Neurological Care and Research Center/USC University Hospital, the Epilepsy Program (including surgery for patients with intractable seizures); MS Comprehensive Care Center; Neuro-Oncology; and Stroke, which emphasizes prevention or early intervention.

The department has a strong reputation in clinical neurophysiology and has active research programs in epilepsy, neuromuscular disorders, autoimmune diseases, intraoperative monitoring, and coma. Its EEG and Evoked Potential Laboratories are Board Certified and fully accredited and offer complete services in electroencephalography and evoked potentials including intraoperative monitoring.

Board certified electromyographers perform expert EMG and nerve conduction studies. Evaluation and treatment of patients with neuromuscular disorders using muscle biopsy studies (electron microscopy, histochemistry, tissue culture techniques, and special studies) are available.

The department has a two-bed telemetry unit at USC University Hospital in which to evaluate patients who are candidates for surgery for intractable epilepsy. This is part of a comprehensive program that includes PET scanning, electrophysiology, neuropsychology, language localization, and therapeutic protocols for both standard and experimental antiepileptic drugs.
