The department has a strong reputation in
clinical neurophysiology and has active research programs
in epilepsy, neuromuscular disorders, autoimmune diseases,
intraoperative monitoring, and coma. Its EEG and Evoked Potential
Laboratories are Board Certified and fully accredited and
offer complete services in electroencephalography and evoked

of patients with neuromuscular disorders using muscle biopsy
studies (electron microscopy, histochemistry, tissue culture
techniques, and special studies) are available.
The department has a two-bed telemetry unit
at USC University Hospital in which to evaluate patients who
are candidates for surgery for intractable epilepsy. This
is part of a comprehensive program that includes PET scanning,
electrophysiology, neuropsychology, language localization,
and therapeutic protocols for both standard and experimental
antiepileptic drugs.
